Welcome to Big Oaks Brittanys

Louise & Danny Brown, Big Oaks Brittanys Mississippi Brittany BreedersDanny and Louise Brown are life long residents of the area and believe that Mississippi is truly God’s country. Mississippi is blessed with beautiful blue skies, cool winter temps, pine and hardwood forests, rolling hills, grass fields and crops. Big Oaks Brittanys is located on the back of beautiful Grenada Lake just outside of Grenada, Mississippi. Danny has hunted most of his life and during the 70s and 80s enjoyed the best Southern Bob White Quail hunting in and around his own back yard. Working mostly with long tails, he never really got to know or hunt behind the Brittany. In 1998 Louise rescued a little orange and white Brittany named Josey. She was not very well trained, but hunted very hard and was a dream to watch. A couple of years later came Little Bit and Hunter. Danny trained them from pups and really got to see what a powerhouse this breed can be. They we so easy to train and could hunt all day.Delta and Credit On Point Hunter was Louise’s first show candidate. He was a beauty and could hunt too, but she came to realize that he was going to grow a bit much for the show ring. That is when she got Faison’s Fire King. He was just perfect and boy could he hunt! He finished his championship very early at just over a year old and then came the Chilcote line of Brittanys and yes, show dogs can hunt!
Louise was hooked on showing this breed. Together, Danny and Louise work to train their Brittanys for the field and show ring and also the hunt test arena. Most of their Brittanys have a show title and or a hunt test title. (Yes, show dogs can hunt!!) In 2000 Danny and Louise decided to start Big Oaks Brittanys. Mississippi can no longer claim to have a large population of wild Bob White Quail, but with the help of Pollard’s Quail Farm in Mathiston, MS, Big Oaks Brittanys can claim to have the best Traditional Quail Hunts anywhere. On a cold winters day there is nothing better than the site of the dogs running ahead, nose into the wind and the point, flush and sound of the shotgun. As the last bird of the day is brought to hand, it is with much contentment that you can reflect back on the day’s events and realize that life doesn’t get much better than this.

Danny and Louise would like to invite you to Big Oaks Brittanys for a lively, fun filled day of traditional quail hunting.
